www.flyzoom.com They have good prices for tickets for people and they also allow cats as cargo. Don't know the cost but maybe cheaper than doing it through a third party company Mark Janovitz |

Used a company called http://www.ryslip.com/ who were just fantastic. They collected the cats, boarded them overnight, took care of all paperwork and health checks and supplied a very well built cage/kennel (what ever you want to call it) They arranged for flights on Air Canada and if i remember rightly the price was under £700 all in!! |

I'm sorry Tia, I just had to laugh ....here's a brick wall to bang your head against !! :D Hey I have an idea; why don't you all get your pets microchipped, blood tested, rabies vaccinated and you could try to apply for a DEFRA export certificate and then you could always go ahead and try to apply for a Canadian import certificate at the same time. Have fun guys, that is what life is all about. ;) |

The vet who meets you on arrival will rabies vaccinate if your pets are not vaccinated, however I had mine done before we left as I thought it would be too stressful to have them travel all that way and then be greeted by an injection. |

Again sorry to go off the cat theme but I want to reply to your points about tortoises. The climate in the UK is not really suitable to keep torts outside all year round, as is Canada not suitable. In the summer they live outside in an enclosed pen in the garden and can wander around happily all summer. When it gets too cold to leave them outside, they have a vivarium with heat lamps and a special uv light strip. Whilst they do not have the freedom to move around as much during the winter, we do let them out to have a roam around the lounge periodically. You say that there are not many references to tortoises on the forum you visited. I think I am right in saying that in the USA tortoises are referred to as turtles (I am not sure whether it is the same in Canada), although turtles and tortoises are fundamentally different creatures. Judy, I thank you for your research on this matter, it has been most helpful. I will let you all get back to the cat theme now.

Firstly air Canada officially limit you to 2 dogs per family. After speaking to them they sadi that they could consider 3 dogs if there was space on the flight. The thought of arriving at the airport only to find that they won';t take one is just too horrible to contemplate. Secondly, how on earth to you get 3 large dogs in crates to the airport? |

Thanks - now I know that it depends on who you do it through. It does seem strange that when we don't have Rabies in the country. However I can see how it would prevent it from spreading as well. Thanks for the link.

No it is the number of cats (lol) one dog is ok. No idea about provinsial - we went to Kamloops and asked - we were told only 3 pets in city limits. Not a problem to us as we don't want to live in city limits and our pets will find the smaller villages around Kamloops to be rather large and over populated.
