I'm not saying don't go (if you can - can't remember if you told us you'd got a visa sorted or not?), but do research it as I've seen lots of threads on this forum from people who've been shocked by the cost of things in Canada.

Checked out the cost of chicken in Canada recently?! Do have a search as there are various threads on the cost of groceries and a lot of things are more expensive than the UK.

I was a bit disappointed at an agricultural show in NS last summer when I bought some 'cider' which turned out to be just apple juice.

I'm an ale drinker and NS is awash with the stuff, domestic & UK imports...

Is it possible to buy decent cider in NS? I've given up on the idea of drinking proper beer (ie real ale) after we move to NS, but with all the orchards and shared Anglo-French history I thought there might be some traditional cider making like there is here in Somerset UK and also in north-west France.

At the risk of turning into BristolUK, good beef here is $8/lb, lamb $6/lamb, eggs $3/dozen (metric eggs also available $3/ten). These prices assume collecting from the farm.

Dunno about NS, but pretty hard to get decent cider in Ontario - and its more costly than beer. I've heard decent things about Quebec...
As a scrumpy girl at heart, we've been reduced to homebrewing our own - from canned apple juice right now, but hoping to branch out into the real deal in the autumn. It's actually quite decent (and potent) and works out at around 80 cents a litre. Just put another 60 on to brew today...

Or you can pay $3/lb for perfectly good beef/steak and eggs @ $1.50-$2 for a dozen. From the supermarket and drugstore, not the farm.

No. Recent costs; winter tyres $900, summer tyres $900, routine service $400(every three months), new rear brake pads and rotors $500, windshield washer pump $200. I find it's a very expensive car to run. It also has a new windshield more than once a year but, fortunately, that's under warranty. I'm mystified by claims that Hondas are reliable and economical as this one is neither.
