support worker jobs
 
Hi all the wife and me are thinking of moving out to bc surrey/langley area i have a job offer but nothing is set in stone yet. my wife is an adult home support worker for adults with learning difficilts she has got her first aid as well as other training health and safety,safeguarding vunlnerable adults,moveing and handling ect can any one shed any light on work for support workers in surrey/langley is there much work ect my wife dosent drive would that be a problem for the type of work over there any info or comments would be much appreciated thank you in advanced

What's your job, will she definitely be able to work? Not driving in Canada tends to be difficult, would she learn?

I found a website specifically for the "not for profit" sector the other day with tons of jobs... Worth having a google...

I think you need a qualification in Canada to be a personal support worker, I've heard rumours that even UK expats with a qualification in nursing couldn't get a job as a PSW

It may vary fom province to province - in onario I have not ern able o secure ok as. PSW as I do not have a PSW certificate - 25 years of nursing history and a current application in process with CNO mean nothing without the certificate. I would ontact a few o th in support worker employers and ask their requirements. The course is less than a year if she had to do the course though.

That could well be charityvillage.ca

Seems to be the place to go for not for profit jobs. My wife has found both of her jobs in Canada so far from that website, albeit in Ottawa. Its nationwide.
