Default A stupid question about buying a used car

Hey guys,

Just wondering if any of you would know...we are driving a couple of hours out of town with the intention of buying a used car from a private seller. How do we go about getting it home? Can we just drive it without insurance that just doesn't seem right...we are in Ontario.

Thanks in advance.
Thea

before driving it home, you would need registration and plates on top of insurance.

Buy a temporary permit to drive it on the road.

Thanks Aviator, I just spoke to brother in law and he's coming over to explain what I need to do.
I didn't think we needed to register and get plates to drive it home!

As everyone has said.
You will need a temp permit (10 day permit) if you don't already have plates. The temp permit costs about $15. You will also need insurance.
One of those things that isn't really worth the risk not doing right.
Have fun with your new car!

Yes get 10 day permit. Or if you do not want to bother with 10 day permit ask the seller to drive the car to your place and offer him/her a ride back. Then go and register your car taking insurance, title and emission exam (if applicable) with you. If you need to take the car to emission unfortunately you need to deal with 10 day permit anyway.
Enjoy your car.

Thanks guys, we are not 100% sure if we are going to get it yet, just wanted to know before we left what we would need to do. It's way too far to expect the seller to drive it down to us, worst luck but hopefully it will go well. and we will come home with a new rust free car with blinkers which work all the time and doesn't belong to my father in law!
