It's not seen as a commercial debt like a car loan it doesn't go against your credit score and when you apply for mortgage they only take into account your monthly payments, not the full loan.

Fastest way to bad credit in Canada are student loans. In hindsight, I wish I hadn't got a student loan but at 18 and thinking 'Easy money at low interest rate' but that's life. I don't agree with not paying the loan at all and/or not making any attempt to pay it - you should at least be paying the minimum amount that they want |
