Re: step too far!!!
Different strains etc etc will often have that effect but your bodies will surely build up immunity.
I'm always suffering with the mossie bites in North America whereby the area swells and is uncomfortable. After years of this it's only just getting easier. Grin and bare like a good Brit :p Don't forget to take vitamins, exercise, and eat healthily ;) |

Re: step too far!!!
We were rarely ill in England and are rarely ill here. I can't say that we've noticed a difference. Where are you?

Re: step too far!!!
The first year we were in Canada we all came down with a cold, the first for a few years, and we all suffered badly for nearly a month very really ill. Since we got over that we have been (:fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:) cold free. Hopefully it will be the same in your case.

Re: step too far!!!
Rarely got ill in the UK and even less so here. I think I have had one cold in 3 winters. Probably the -20C temps kills off the bugs over winter.
Also, not sure where you live but could poor air quality be causing your problems. In which case you could consider relocating. As El Richo says make sure you follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Definitely no smoking! |

Re: step too far!!!
We were ill a lot (coughs, sniffles, sore throats, eye infections) the first winter we were here. I put it down to exposure to different strains of viruses (hubbie started Uni, daughter started school, I was at playgroups with my son) and also stress. But the second winter was much better. Make sure you all eat well, drink lots of water, get lots of sleep and get exercising.

Re: step too far!!!
been here 7 months now and apart from 1 cold that dragged on the whole family has been very well, probably more healthy than when we where in the uk

Re: step too far!!!
I've never really been a person who gets ill so haven't noticed a difference. I had a cold the second or third week of living here but I got that from my other half who seems to pick up things alot easier anyway! But that has been the height of it apart from him getting sick from eating a 7/11 hotdog! lol

Re: step too far!!!
What is all this with "exercising"? People emigrate for a better standard of living; a car so you don't have to walk, a remote so you don't have to switch the TV on manually. There's really no merit in exerting oneself unneccessarily.

Re: step too far!!!
bear in mind your immune system is adapting and so are the bugs in the UK. ..moving back there may precipitate another round of 'getting used to the local nasties' if you go back, dragging this out even longer!

Except in winter. When you're out in the cold a blast of warm smoke through your lungs is a tonic and wards off the flu.

Re: step too far!!!
If your kids are young and are just starting school, it a surefire way to catch all kinds of bugs - both here and back in the UK
I have friends who are teachers and they too catch all kinds of bugs off the kids. |
Re: step too far!!!
I had like 2 or 3 colds per year guaranteed back in the crap old UK with it's cold damp weather. Had ONE cold here in just over 2 years and that came after 18 months!! Had a few stomach bugs but only recent and not that bad. Overall tons better health wise than before so no complaints here. Maybe you're doing something wrong or live in the wrong part of Canada??
