Step One
 

Hi guys and girls

We have now decided to make the move to Canada, hopefully Alberta. what we would like to know is the best way that people have found to do things. eg buying a house or PNP or maybe looking out a school. We know we could trawl through these forums and discussions, which we have been doing, but we are getting totally confused by the amount of information. We therefore thought that the best way would be to invite people to post us suggestions to help us along at a faster pace.

We really appreciate all input good or bad and even if you don't have any advice We really appreciate that you have taken time out of your day to read this.

If you want to get here in a "reasonable" time frame (ie less than 5 years) then a work permit or better yet a PNP place (or being related to a canadian) is your best bet

The wiki is the best place to start for reliable non conflicting info...the forum works best I find for specific issues and questions, and for trawling through, as there a good chance that anything you can think to ask has already been answered. Non specific questions dont ever seem to reap positive results.

Hi and welcome. Probably the best thing you can do is check out the Canada 'Wiki' located at the top of the page. This resource has been put together by some of the members of this forum & contains invaluable information on most aspects of Canada & immigration.
I would suggest that you focus on the immigration side of things first, for the official rules & regulations see.......http://cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp

Hi Mikey,

What line of work are you in??? If there is a high number of vaccancy's in a certain work skill, (i.e truck driver in Alberta) and if you have the skills necessary to fill that job criteria, then you may be able to get to Canada through the PNP (provincial nominee programme). ;)
Once in Canada through the PNP, you can put your kids in school, buy a house and a dog if you!! You can apply for your permenant residency after 6 month if your job offer is permenant.:thumbup:

Its just another suggestion for you to consider.:cool:

thanks all who have posted so far.

I am currently self employed. I own a Ski and Outdoor retail Unit, An Organic Beauty and Body Shop and I also Life and Business Coach. As you can see I am usually busy. I would like to concentrate on the life coaching making people happier and the Customer care training of staff for Canadian companies. I do have a Class two truck Licence.
My wife works with kids that have special needs. she specialises in Autistic kids.

Any thoughts on the above.

How do you apply for PNP? is there a page on the immigration site or do you have to get your job first.

hello and welcome, you seem to have a few occupations between you both, have you checked whether any are in need in Alberta. Judy and others have worked hard on the Wiki and I am sure you will find something that fits your family.

Hi

First off ... a class 2 truck drivers licence will not get you in under a pnp, the shortage is for class 1 long haul drvers

It sounds to me like you would be better off looking at setting up a business in Canada which will give you the opportunity to gain a pnp.

you need plenty of finance behind you though, this link explains how the entrepreneaur system works (this is for the saskatchewan province but most provinces have similar requirements) have a look and see if this might be for you.

Thanks for the info MrsP. i don't really want to go down the business route just yet as it will tie up a lot of my money which i intend to use to start up a new life.
i am happy with working for someone else at the moment or if the wife is able to secure a work visa i will go and be self employed then as the start up costs are minimal as i relly only need transport and a telephone for my coaching business.s

We applied Aug 2004 and got our PR Sept 2005,emmigrated Mar 2006.We went the self employment way,my wife use to work in the film industry as a background artist.My advice is to check all the avenue's you can to see if there is another way you can emmigrate with what you have done with your life.And by going the self employed way,got us in the Canada in pretty quick time.Our friend applied the same time as us via the skilled worker way,and is still waiting for his PR.

You cannot get into canada with a class 2 licence you need a class 1.
It us also very to get any jobs that work with children if you are not canadian, you may be better of trying the business route but you will have to have the money sitting in the bank is cannot be browed from any source it has to be all yours
