Static electricity & calgary

Maybe it's just us, but for the last few days we've been here, we've all been shocking each other with static electricity. At first we thought it was the hotel, but its happening getting out of cars too, and just walking around.
Anyone know what this is all about?

dry air and friction (walking etc) all you need for fun filled sparks. It's not just calgary, I get shocks from light switches , door handles , the lift call button , Ben , anything really.

The only thing I do is deliberately insulate myself , touch buttons with gloves rather than hands for example and then steel myself for the inevitable shock at a time of my choosing!!!

Hi - can I just add that it's not only Calgary that's bad for the shocks. Up hear in Edmonton, I'm contort myself every time I have to switch a light switch or open the tumble drier! The anticipation is worse than the actual shock though!!!!

If it means anything to you it does go away in time.:)

How long? I don't know, I don't remember the last time I received a static shock. ;)

But then I've been here for 45 years. :p

Cheers

Back in England it was only ever something I got at work. Dry atmosphere was a factor, but it only ever happened as a result of walking on the carpet, never a tiled area.

Here I'm getting it while walking on hardwood floors at home and tiled flooring in stores.

Get a humidifier for your home if you have lots of static. Heating dries up the air and moving around will cause static. I was shocking my laptop and that is no fun.
