State of the rental market Calgary

Well its been a while..after leaving Calgary to go home to the UK 16 months ago..i have been offered a job back in the city.

I used to live in New Brighton, Calgary which was very nice indeed, however the rental market was pretty tight back then what with the flood etc..have things changed or is it much the same now?

It's let up a little, what with the oil price dropping and everyone going back east...last time i looked, the availability was at 2.5%

There's still a bunch of building going on, sure you'll get something fairly easily

Crime rates have gone up. Burglaries have become more common but I wouldn't say you're dealing with masked gunmen, by comparison with London it's no big deal.

So look on the bright side, you left before the loonie plunged.

Also the city has recently approved secondary suite construction without a developer's permit in various parts of the city and net inward migration has dropped, and there is also a huge amount of empty office space downtown so put it all together and rents are dropping.
