Also any help regarding starting a business in Quebec would be highly appreciated. I intend to open one as soon as I get my PR card.

Hi

The first thing you need to get before you start is a Business Number. You have to register your business through your lawyer or I believe you can do it on line and then you are given a BN which will also include a GST number and payroll number.

You will need to take the Food Safe course here too, even though you have it already I am sure, you will still need to do it here.

Hi JazzyC,

I don't know if it is the same in B.C, but in Ontario you can apply for grants of up to $20,000 as long as your business plan is approved. You don't have to pay this back, even if your business does not work out.

The best thing to do, would be to enrol in some classes offered at a local college on starting a business. They can help you with your business plan, explain all the legalities and you can use their resources.

Good Luck!

Int.
