spousal support after divorce

I was shocked to hear (from a previous post) that in Ontario you have to support your spouse after a divorce regardless of their income. Is this only in Ontario? Does this apply to men as well? How about if you brought significant wealth into a marriage? Do you still have split 50/50?

If this is an interpretation of one of my posts it's not what I said. Support varies directly with income, this imo acts as a disincentive to the recipient increasing her, or his, income through, for example, working more hours.
