Personally, I would try taking a 3 month break back to Canada June to August for a few years to see if you like the option of working and living in 2 countries works. I worked in Germany for 5 years and commuted back to the UK every second weekend back in 2001-2005. Although not ideal, it was possible as the flight was only 1 hour. We are considering a similar option between Canada and Costa Rica as snowbirds, but with 3 dogs it is not practical at the moment.

IMO having homes in different countries is expensive...it is also a huge burden.
