Surely there's a better context for that.

You're talking hassocks. Ow, caught me right in the cassocks.

This has just reminded me of the opening titles of Porridge.

An habitual offender.

Someone who interferes with nuns?

I'm in Nova Scotia and I don't speak or understand a word of french. No problems here and for government jobs you only need to speak french if you're dealing with the public.
I think it all depends on where you're located, some places are not really bilingual and some are very bilingual.

Apparently all the nurses at the local hospital are being sent on French courses as it is now a requirement, some I've spoken to in their 'later years' are non too happy about it and are looking at leaving, either the profession or the Province. A great shame, noting the state of healthcare around here and another blow to an already dying Province. They don't do themselves any favours in Atlantic Canada.

Couldn't agree more. In the month of February Fredericton lost 4,000 permanent work positions (I was one of them!) and 1,500 part time ones. A friend who is a very experienced critical care nurse, needed a back to back worker and has ended up with a person with little to no experience, but they are French speaking[]

Sorry to hear that. What now...or is it one of those things where the job still exists but just on renewable contract or something?

Oh no Millie! Hope that you either kept your job somehow (under different terms) or are able to find something else quickly.
