Default Sourcing rental properties

Hi, we're moving to (Eastern) Ontario soon and we're currently researching the rental market in places like Peterborough, Kingston and possibly Ottawa.
In the UK, there is a super site called 'Rightmove' where you tap in a postcode, radius, price range and other criteria to help you in your quest.
Despite some extensive Googling (.ca as well), I haven't found a Canadian equivalent anywhere near as useful or user-friendly.
Could anyone out there please point me in the right direction - if indeed such a site exists?
Many thanks!

There is no one source, you can look at websites like:

There is also Craig's List but I personally don't use that one.

We rent in Ottawa and it was difficult to find rentals especially as being new to Canada. I would recommend getting your UK credit file/score from Experian which you can do for FREE, just signup and get your file then ring up and cancel your account.

Thanks JB. I've seen both those sites. Kijiji is okay but a bit of a "jumble" to be honest when looking for homes.
I suppose we'll just have to persist with these if there isn't an "all under one roof" type of site.
From what I have seen so far, renting looks quite expensive over there - though I suppose this is partly due to the exchange rate.

Thanks also for the Experian tip

You could try padmapper: http://www.padmapper.com/

It aggregates various small ads websites such as craiglist - so although you won't get anything more than what's already in the sources listed above, at least it's all in one place and quite user friendly.

Good luck!

I think it does look more expensive, but you don't pay the council tax here the house owner does. Some rentals may also include utility's within the cost so check the small print.

You should really look at the rental cost against the expected Canadian salary.

Depends on whether you want a private rental or go through a property management company, of which there are several large ones in Ottawa: Minto, CLV Group, Paramount, Osgoode Properties, District Realty, etc. Most, if not all will have websites advertising available properties.

Most property management companies and some private renters will ask for at least 1 month rent up front as a deposit with a 12 month contract.
