Sold !!!!!!!

It's official, my house has now SOLD!!!!!

Sold really quickly - on the market for 11 days the went to sealed bids. For the last 2 weeks it has been 'under offer' and today it was declared Sold! In Scotland that means its legally binding even though we don't move out until 8th January 2007 - no gazumping and collapsing of chains north of the border. :D

Just waiting for WPs to come through (expected end Nov beginning Dec). Once thats through we'll buy our flights. Lots and lots to do, and what with our big move fast approaching and Christmas/Hogmany methinks I'll be paying a visit to la-la land ;)

Just got to find a rental at the other end - thats proving more difficult. Been told that they are mainly unfurnished - no good cos our shipment will take 6 weeks to land.

Take a deep breath in, deep breath out............... :p

I know what you mean. I love watching Location, Location, Location on TV but when the made a spin-off programme following people in a 'chain' I found it so depressing and confusing that I had to turn the TV over :(

Congrats!! Just a quick thought.....I'm not sure where you're going, but have you looked into rental companies that will let you rent entire bedroom / living room suites / tvs / etc? I suspect they're not cheap, but might be an option. I don't know the details of one off hand, but did come across one recently....maybe someone else has had experience with these companies??

Congrats again,
Jen

found these through google:
http://www.furniturerental.ca/furnitureproducts.htm
http://www.sterlingfurniturerental.c...g=en&site=furn

although again, i've no first-hand knowledge of going this route

I don't know why the English put up with this crap, honest. I've bought and sold houses in Canada (twice), Germany and France and never had to go through the horror stories we regularly hear on here.

Moreover my sister lives in bonny scotland and has also never had the "chain" hassle during maybe 5 transactions.

Serious like, why do the English put up with this nonsense? Who is making a profit out of it? What special interests are involved?

My best guess would be the solicitors ..... nobody else could want the process to drag on. The estate agents I'd suppose would want sales to go through smoothly and speedily. ...

Not a vested interest to declare here (am a solicitor but do not do conveyancing) but you will find that most solicitors work on a fixed fee whereas estate agents work on commission. You will find that, normally, estate agents fees will far exceed those earned by the solicitors (on my current sale solicitor's fees are £600 plus VAT, estate agent's are £3000 plus VAT). Solicitors can be sued if they cock up their end whereas, in reality, estate agents simply put buyers in contact with sellers (very few actually do viewings). The length of the process does not affect their fee so it is in their interest for the transaction to proceed as quickly as possible. :scared:

Basically it's the conveyancing process of the UK that is the cause of most hold ups :D

Just my tuppence worth (now waiting to be flamed by estate agents) :D

Congratulations
I think i will be going thru your process soon. I live in Sheffield and my neighbours when they sold their house did it the kind of scottish way, they just put a home made board outside the house and only excepted bids posted to them by a certain date. They never talked to any of us so couldnt ask how they did it, but it sold. I might try that, or try and advertise it on net. Every little saved helps towards getting out of here..lol
Best of luck in your new life.
