In addition to the Job Bank website to which Yoong provided a link, use the Canadian Company Capabilities website to find out who the corporate players in your sector are.

Find out the equivalency of your qualifications.

Canadianise your CV and turn it into a resume.

Network to tap into the "hidden job market" (the jobs -- said to constitute between 70% and 80% of those that are available -- that are not advertised).

Recognise the importance of using the phone. If you e-mail a potential employer while you're still in the UK, they almost certainly will not acknowledge receipt of your resume. (They very likely won't acknowledge receipt even if you're in Canada.)

When you know that your move to Canada is a few weeks away (or you know you can do a recce trip to Canada), phone people in your industry in Calgary and ask them if you can meet them informally to pick their brains about their field. This kind of meeting is called an informational interview.

If you want to find work in Calgary, you really need to phone people and set up face to face meetings. This is way more critical in Canada than it is in the UK.

Read the BE Wiki article called Careers (Canada). When you've finished reading it, read it again, slowly. Take on board what it says about cultural differences, etc.

Oh yes, if you end up moving to Calgary before you've found work, increase your networking activities by attending meetings of relevant groups, like the Calgary Unix Users Group.

Hope that helps.
