I would stick to other airlines like United, Air Canada, BA etc as they normally allow more luggage and more weight on carry on. No way I'll check in a DSLR, Digital Video Camera, a £1400 laptop (I'm a mac user) and portable printer.

Just my 2 cents.

Also, United and some fares on AC will allow for ticket changes incase you book a return. United also allow stop overs so you could have a day sight seeing on your way over in a US city. Ofcourse they charge but £50 - £100 is a small fee to pay for that.
The request was for info on cheap flights ...... you can't (often) have your cake and eat it too!!

We have just returned from Alberta using Canadian Affaire (monarch flights)
Had a nightmare, on arrival at Calgary 27/12/06 Monarch wouldnt land due to snow on the runway and had diverted to Edmonton had a 4 hour wiat for buses to collect us and take back to Calgary 3 hour bus ride, no other planes diverted.
coming home 13/1/07 due to take off at 2pm but delayed then couldnt take off as snow and cabin crew out of hours 22 hour delay got put up for a night in a hotel but airline wouldnt release luggage as already on board.
Why fly to Alberta in winter when it snows if they wont land!
Trying to claim now off insurance

That's terrible, sounds like you had almost identical flight dates to ours except we went to Vancouver and had no problems either way. Glad now we didn't do Calgary as we had considered it.

Wow. Did they explain that any further? I guess when you've mainly done the Costas, Canaries and the Caribbean, Calgary might be a bit of a shock?!

that is very very true.

I guess that if you are shipping stuff in advance then using a cheap flight would be beneficial. In my case, I need the luggage allowance. AC allows two bags 23kilos each on economy ticket. I'd probably not ship much in advance at all so for me it makes sence to use AC or any other non charter flight.

For those who can travel with little luggage - charter flights are great.

I have been checking costs of flights for when we land (yippee) and was very surprised to find BA was cheaper than zoom, may be worth checking before booking flights

I have shedloads of airmiles sitting with an airline so am thinking of using them for a business class ticket when the day comes.

Actually - those of you who are still in process and waiting. Why not aply for a CC with BMI, use it and save miles and when the day comes you can redeem the miles for tickets.

It's a thought

YYZ - flies a lot.
