A friend's husband works in the camps and has a 14 on, 7 off rotation.
The rotation suggested here sounds appalling, as 4 days off is barely time to get the hell out of there and back, not including anything such as rest in between. It isn't worth the cost of flights for that long.

Certainly if the OP is thinking of having any time with her partner, she should give living there a try, as one poster suggested. If she hates it, then she can move, but it would at least make his 4 days off four days together.

Is 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off a good rotation?

Yes, very funny, I can picture that

Its Harry Enfield and Chums mate, loved the Fast show, I've been likened to Chris the crafty cockney many times.

That sounds like a commissioning or operations rotation. They are 'equal time', and up here the most common ones I've seen are 10 days on/10 days off or 3 weeks on/3 weeks off. For these positions, there are 4 people for every job - day and nightshift, and back to back, and they are needed for the entire life of the plant. (Homer Simpson is a typical operations person. )

In the projects stage (engineering & construction), which is what I work in, equal time rotations are virtually non-existent. Typically up here they are 14/7 days, 21/7 days or 5/3 weeks for expats. I'm the only person I know who does 6/2 weeks, but there was a good reason behind that at some point I vaguely remember.

Projects work is more intense than operations which is why we try to not need 4 people for every job if we can just work 1 guy half to death - he can get a proper vacation once the job's finished. Naturally, projects work pays much better than operations because you work more days and the rates are higher as contracts are just for the duration of the project.
