Skill recognition

Hi there,

Ok so a few questions.... Basically I’m a UK registered midwife with bachelors degree and a post grad SCPHN (health visiting) diploma. I am currently working in the latter, and I’m am wondering if my qualifications would be recognised in Canada and what kind of job role would be available to me there as I no I could not work as a midwife. Secondly my husband is a tree surgeon and has 10 plus years of management experience so how do we go about making the move? Do we try to find jobs and sponsorship or do we apply for PR? Sorry I’m new to the process so I’m not sure of all the correct immigration terms. I hope someone can steer me in the right direction to get some more information on the what the right route would be for us.

Getting your qualifications recognised would be fairly long and involved process as it's a regulated profession, but you can make a start here: Internationally Educated Midwives | Canadian Midwifery Regulators Council

Your husband would likely qualify to challenge the inter-provincial exam for Arborist.

He would need to pass the exam.

Ah ok, is that even if he has UK certificates and qualifications? He has about 5 years experience and is now in management.

Yes. He can use his experience, if he has sufficient hours, to challenge the Inter Provincial Exam - if he had no experience or insufficient hours he would have to start from scratch. Certification / Registration / Licensing is a requirement for many professions in Canada and each Province has it's own governing / licensing body.
