SITTING GCSES IN VANCOUVER

Hi

We are going to have to move to Vancouver shortly before my son sits his GCSEs. Hi school in the UK would like to enter him into the exams but he may have to physically sit them in Vancouver. Does anyone know if there are any assessment centres in Vancouver or schools that do GCSES? Thanks very much in advance for any advise you may have.

We moved in my daughter's GCSE year and I briefly looked into this before concluding it wasn't worth it and the more important thing was starting her in Grade 10 where they start receiving credits for high school graduation.

Only having 2 GCSEs hasn't done her any harm.

I've never heard of any such facility here.

I suspect that you will simply have to make arrangements for an invigilator. I would start at one of the Universities. There is bound to be someone that could do with some extra beer money.

If he is going to live in Canada, GCSEs are not much use. High School graduation is what employers and further education look for, which is at grade 12 level. There are no assessment centres to sit foreign exams. Some distance ed faculties will invigilate, but would seem a lot of effort for not much reward, for someone moving to Canada.

We stayed in the UK an extra 6 months for my daughter to do her GCSEs whilst OH came to Canada. Her results were then 'converted' to credits - she got enough that she could have gone into Grade 12, but we decided it was preferable for her to start in Grade 11. As someone else commented, it's the high school diploma that's needed here - we weren't sure if Canada would work for us so it seemed prudent for her to complete her courses before we left as she was so close.

This post may be of help http://britishexpats.com/forum/canad...2/#post4803487

GCSE O and A level exams are available through Cambridge International Examinations. CIE has five exam centres in Canada

How long is "shortly before his exams". Is there anyway you or he can stay that little bit longer to get them done? Then whatever he has passed can be assessed against school credits here and he can be awarded something at this end. (However, if we're talking nearly a whole school year, then forget that and get him into Grade 10 asap.)
