Re: The single worst thing about Canada is....
Thank you for the welcome. Feel slightly sheepish now thinking IHOP was some form of bureaucracy And here I was thinking Canada would be much easier language wise compared to here (UAE).
We are moving to Kelowna BC end August after too many years living as expats in the Middle East. After searching through lots of old threads the info regarding certain areas in BC, Kelowna in particular really made me laugh as it sounded very similar to certain parts of the United Arab Emirates. Rich07s posts were fantastically descriptive

Are all the channels 'free to air' or whatever its called or do you sign up for cable or a set top box or something if you just 'get them all' any recommendations for channels with good British Dramas or mini series or is it similar to the US channels? (have been desperate to watch a decent drama for donkeys years)
Should I start a new thread or is it okay to go a bit off topic as I don't live there yet so have no clue about the worst thing (apart from the cost of flights and flying time from Middle East to BC
Are the mossies really big?

Most people have either cable or satellite TV connections. I use cable, which is provided by Shaw in my area. With Shaw you pay $33 a month for the first 28 channels or $56 a month for the first 60. The basic package includes CBC, Knowledge and Public Broadcasting feeds from Seattle and Detroit which all have some decent programing from time to time. The extended package includes Bravo and A&E which are good source for drama, and BBC World Service.
If you opt for a digital decoder ($55 to buy and an extra couple of bucks a month) you have access to a wide range of extra channels. These include BBC North America where you can get a good fix of BBC dramas and other shows, and Setanta for the English footy.
If you are really into TV you can buy an HD digital decoder ($600) and with a suitable TV you can count the nose hairs of the actors.
