Thinking of moving to Canada from UK.Anybody help with the cost of groceries
fuel,services-electricity,gas etc.
Nice family area in BC to live.
Finally the weather.

What's your preferences for family area center of vancouver, suburban, rural, remote or really really on your own.

by the sea in mountains on an island.

As for fuel changes by the day and depends on the family area.

There are 140 Sobeys supermarkets located in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Ontario with an average size of approximately 35,000 square feet, although many stores are over 40,000 and some are as large as 60,000 square feet.

Groceries about the same as here, although often you get bigger packets and cartons for same price as standard in Uk. Everything comes large!
We find all utilities are about the same really. Except fuel ( petrol) which seems the same in cents as it is in pence here.
Our water is metered and they give so much water for a set price then go up in three price bands.
Generally overall expect to pay the same as you do here across the board.
Uk is not as bad these days as it was for "ripping us off"
What makes a difference is the changing of UK pound for Canadian dollars. If you take a lot of cash with you it frees up things like a mortgage, allowing you to start at a better run on the ladder.

Takeaway food is cheaper, eating out is cheaper, again dollars for pounds.
All furniture clothes etc, is the same as here these days, give or take a few pounds.

We have home on Vancouver Island, not there permanantly yet we too and froo, until later in the year. But chose this for the climate. Where we are may not suit older teenagers as much as a city, but we are used to small town living, and village life, so love where we are. Also we have ski ing in winter, mountain biking sailing water sports golf hiking fishing everything on our doorstep. Good college for us and kids if we fancy catching up on skills. We have airport direct to Calgary Vancouver and Mexico! and a train once a day down to Vicoria!! We are in Courtenay mid island. Seasons like Uk which I lover. Can be very wet in winter, but still warm last year. Lovely in summer.
Husband returned a few days ago, adn it was in high 60's and 70's, only rained one day. He said it was perfect.

Biggest supermarket chain in canada is Loblaws. They operate dozens of different names like Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore, Fortinos, No Frills etc. I think they may actually be in the top biggest in the world by now. Loblaws is 100% Canadian company.

Second is A&P which is a US company (The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Comapny). They operate as A&P in Canada as well as Dominion (except the maratime dominions which Loblaws owns) and they have a discount chain called Food Basics.

Third is Sobeys which also operates the discount store Price Chopper and a few others.

IGA is the Independant Grocers Association which is a large US company which has stores in Canada as well.
