Shipping tools on a work visa ?????

Carpenter half way through the visa application process was wondering if any actually ever shipped there tools over on a working holiday? i plan on working in the trade over there and its way cheaper to ship than buy all over again. Any advice / past experiences appreciated . Thanks .

How many tools are we talking about and what is their fair market value?
Tools for use in a business are subject to any import duties and taxes. Dependent on how many and their value you may have to pay. Excess baggage might be just as cheap as opposed to using a courier such as UPS or Fedex etc.

About the size of a small vans worth, probably worth about £4000 2nd hand so buying brand new will be a lot more ,but obviously ill just bring the essentials. I have a family friend who owns a shipping company who said he can ship whatever i can fit on a standard create so should get what i need on it plus extras like clothes computer ect. Takes about 5 weeks from pickup and costs around £1000.

Im assuming you will be shipping the tools after you arrive in Canada. You need to provide your shipper with a list of the tools and approx value. Also provide a copy of your work permit or your LOI issued by CIC. You will need to clear the tools at a local Customs office providing there is one near to where you are heading for.
