Shipping Quotes as promised

Various people have asked to let them know what we get quoted to ship our goods so rather than go back and track you all down I've started a new thread.

We are taking a 40' container to Vancouver Island including two motocrossers and the quotes are

Weston and Edwards - quote given over phone without visiting house - £5400:unsure:

GB Liners - £6500:)

Whites - £5379 (think they may have underestimated cubic footage slightly):)

Fox - £6568:)

Excess - first company to come to house to work out quote and seemed very efficient with the laptop but still no quote!

Hope this is of help. Let me know if you need more details.

Angela

Re: Shipping Quotes as promised

We have got three of our four quotes back. The fourth should arrive next week. This is to ship from Lancashire to Calgary. They all said we had about 1300 cubic feet of stuff and a twenty foot container holds approx 1000 cubic feet apparently.

Whites - £5150 for exclusive use of a part filled 40 foot container or £3975 if we reduce our stuff to fit in a 20 foot container (which is very unlikely!!)

GB Liners - £5545 for part filled 40 foot or £4245 for 20 foot

Anglo Pacific - £3995 for a 20 foot and then an extra £5.50 per cubic foot of additional stuff to be sent later in a shared container (which we don't want)

We are still waiting for Fox to come back with their quote.

Cheers Lisa - when you see it as £5.50 per cubic foot it makes you realise how expensive it is to send items over - can't get much in a cubic foot

We had the final quote today from Excess which came in at £7249 - by far the dearest.

extremely useful thread! am nowhere near needing to book this type of thing, but it gives us an idea of costs to factor in :)

the only thing i've read recently was someone being charged £450 for 120kgs (which i didn't think was very much considering we take 20-25kg for a 10-dayholiday!!)

Hi
Our quotes were from Whites, Robinsons and Avalon to go from Milton Keynes to Vancouver.
The average was around £3800 for a 20 foot container. We've got a bit more than that, so it's about £4525.
They were all within around £50 of each other.
We're going with Avalon as we've used them before and had a good experience.
Insurance for our stuff's around £800. On top of that is storage in Vancouver which is about £160 a month, plus there's a fee for accessing it.
Hope that's of use to someone!
