well i'm in the process of moving myself...!

We are in a similar position, as we are keeping at home in the UK, we've only got a small amount of stuff we wanted to ship, kitchen ware, pictures etc. So every 6 weeks or so, I 'pop' back to the UK with British Airways and collect another couple of suitcases full. with BA you are still allowed to take 2 peices of luggage upto 23kg each.. thats a lot of pots and pans and it only costs 250 quid each time!!! someone re-assure me its a sensible movement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Airfreight from Northants to Toronto Airport £343.

They supply the cartons, packaging materials free and have many sizes etc.

Has anyone used this company?

We used Excess International (same as Excess Baggage but for bigger moves) from UK to Vancouver and had no problems-just a broken plate or two which you might expect. Cost about £1600 for about 40 boxes and a few pieces of furniture. One of the packers who came to our home was a bit dodgy. You have to stand over them making sure they pack exactly what you want. All in all I had no major complaints though.

We had an e-mail back from Fraans Maas today saying "Unfortunately, we do not carry out this type of work. I would recommend that you contact a local removals company, who may be able to assist you?" Huh?

Advance Forwarding also replied, they have quoted us £220 per cubic metre shipping, or £2.75 per kilo air freight, plus £40 admin/airport security fee for each shipment (door to port - Toronto). I just have to work out what one cubic metre looks like!

Doesnt surprise me as its not their core business. I used them due to a family connection but thought it might be worth a try. A smaller, local freight forwarder (try yellowpages) might be more interested.

Also bear in mind for airfreight that you will get charged for cube (volume) or weight (kg) depending on what is greater. e.g. 1 cubic metre of feathers is charged more than 1 kg if you get my drift.

Try Independent Freight .... I hear they are pretty competitive.
