Shipping Insurance
HI
I know shipping insurance has been discussed on here. And I'm pretty sure there is an insurance company out there that many expats have used, but I'm unable to trace the company on here. If anybody could refresh/help me, I'd be very grateful. Thanks

Letton Percival is a name that will crop up a lot. We used them, no issues with them, but we didn't have to claim for anything.

Marine insurance valuations work differently to household. Marine use average weighted, so can have a big impact on higher valued or items not scheduled.

Re: Shipping Insurance
We used this broker:
http://www.insurance2day.co.uk/
Wayyyy cheaper than the removal companies insurance.
Also included coverage for my Land Rover Defender.
It will be beneficial if you know if your container is going by the long (Panama Canal) or short (Montreal) sea route, as the 'Time on Risk' is important in determining your insurance cost. You may also need to extend the coverage for any rail transport too.

Re: Shipping Insurance
I would not send ocean shipments without insurance. If you have a container on board and there is a loss, the law of general averaging can be crippling.

Rarely do events occur, but no doubt that is what the underwriters of the SS Torrey Canyon thought!
