Default shipping costs across canada ns to bc

Hi all
we had a shipping quote to move us from hallifax ns to BC today. In all honesty i was a littlle taken aback with how expensive the quote was. 3 bed house, husbands tools, all furniture and a lot of stuff from hubbies garage. The quote was $28,000 which compared to what we paid from uk is way more, yes i know one side of canada to other but stilll. Anyone have any experiences tito share. Taking out stuff makes it easier, and we have some very expensive furniture, so sellling we would not get worth, but any constructive feedback or experiences appreciated

Must be a road rate using a removal company by road all the way.

Where in BC? - that will make a difference if a rail route is available - you need an intermodal/CN Rail quote from a Shipping Agent using a shipping container. A quick Google suggests that you might have to pay for a 40' from NS to BC.

You need more quotes too!

Road shipping is expensive. Kelowna to Abbotsford for us last year was $2400 include load from a storage unit (everything still boxed from UK arrival) and unload in to house. Employer paid for this fortunately.

That was about right, as at work we pay approx. $1700 one way for a flat deck when equipment gets brought down to Vancouver from Kelowna.

Which company gave you that quote?

Try AMJ Campbell Moving, Atlas Van Lines, United Van Lines, Mayflower.

Thanks guys. Going to get some more quotes. This was With united. We are getting some rail quotes, otherwise it's u haul and road trip. We were driving when we move as we have a vintage airstream travel trailer to take. Hubbie driving. Not me, not a lover of driving but at 28, 000 dollars I may have to suck it up and drive u haul and follow hubbie with travel trailer lol

We didn't move as far as you will be but we moved from Halifax to Ontario last summer. We were quoted approx $7,000 several times... They all base it on weight rather than cubic feet so if you have some good furniture it probably is solid so heavy... We did it the uhaul way and it cost approx $2000 including paying 2 guys to load in NS... That was only 1800km though...

We moved NB to BC some 3 1/2 years ago. We moved a 3 bed house at a cost of around $9000. We paid by actual weight (6420 lbs) .... as opposed to volume.

Canada is usually charged by weight for anything with significant road transport involved.

We hired a POD, which was shipped from NS to AB. Total cost was around $2000 from memory, although we had to pack it ourselves. Additional cost for the car was about $1800.

$28,000? F***ing ridiculous.

We moved from NS last summer to Alberta and we paid $5800 and used Atlas Van Lines, they were fantastic apart from a few little hiccups that were sorted really quickly

Good Luck!
