Shipping Cost - tricky to gauge!!
Hey all,
Does anyone have ANY idea what I can expect to pay for shipping our belongings to Canada from the UK? The biggest thing we are taking is a three-seater sofa, armchair and pouffe. The rest will be boxes of kitchen stuff, clothes, books and toys. Can someone who's been there and done it, tell me how much they were charged for a container or half a container, or how big the containers are? I know its one of those silly questions that are difficult to answer, but I'm wondering if it will be a matter of £1000 or £5000. Thanks, Lyles. |
Re: Shipping Cost - tricky to gauge!!

Thanks, Lyles. We are using Excess International, they quoted about £2.5k for 530 cubic feet of stuff to BC. Very impressed with their service so far in preparation, survey of stuff and explanation of processes and what is required. No other shipper could beat their price. Rich. |
Re: Shipping Cost - tricky to gauge!!
Hi Paul,
Thanks. Did you fill the whole container? If you don't use the full container can you share it with someone? I've heard this is usually possible. I don't think we would fill a whole container. Thanks for the details. Cheers, Lyles

Re: Shipping Cost - tricky to gauge!!
HI
Anglo Pacific came to pack our belongings up and take to the depot in Manchester on the 19th May 05. Because we were a shared container, there it sat for about a month before they had enough other items to go in it to fill it up. That is the only downside to groupage, be prepared to wait. We are also still having to wait this end due to the truck drivers strike in Vancouver and the backlog there. Anglo Pacific were very good, they came in and export wrapped everything, just 2 guys in one day :) . Still to find out if they wrapped it well enough as we don't have any of it yet. Can't recall exactly the cubit ft we used now, but we shopped around and they seemed to offer the best price and service. We paid approx 2000.00GBP,then add on your insurance costs |
Re: Shipping Cost - tricky to gauge!!
Our quotes (in GBP), Glasgow to Winnipeg, excluding insurance for an estimated 800sq ft of contents with sole useage of the container were:-
Bonner.................4,500 Gerard.................4,250 Anglo Pacific.........4,285 Constantine..........3,800 Britannia..............3,765 Allied Pickfords.....3,410 UTS Bon Accord....3,250 Bishop's Move.......3,100 We chose Bishop's Move. They also included 6wks free storage in the UK which we needed. A few minor breakages, nothing as bad as I expected. We're starting the claim rolling now. |
Re: Shipping Cost - tricky to gauge!!
Hi
Doree Bonner charged £3450 excl insurance for full door;door. Export packing was excellent and they followed spec. to the letter. from London to Halifax and only took 3/52 door;door.[Full container] The Canadian tie-up here was exemplary-happy to give you any other details Orla

Re: Shipping Cost - tricky to gauge!!
Hi
A 20ft container is 1050 sq feet. Express Export Services 4251.50 Pickford 4008 Robinsons 3900 with car 4824 Down to 4500 PSS 3611 Britannia came to have a look around but never bothered to send the quote and Bishop Move told me that somebody would call me back for an appointment but the never did. So if this is the kind of service that those companies offer, I don't want to use them. We chose Robinsons. Somebody on the forum recommended them and they were the ones that impressed me the most. They will be here at the end of the month so we'll see if they are as good as they seem Good luck MCC |

Re: Shipping Cost - tricky to gauge!!
From actual shipping date to arrival at front door in Canada was exactly 4wks for us (Glasgow-Winnipeg). We chose to store in the UK until we got a house and called for our container though but once we did, it was here pdq!
