Shipping baby formula to canada
I know that when travelling, we are able to bring up to 20kg of baby formula into Canada without paying any duty or taxes on it. Does anyone know if I were to get it shipped over, would there be any charges to pay in Canada? Thanks

The canadian government website www.Beaware.gc.ca Has a section on infant formula and it states that it must be Commercially packaged, For personal use only, Sterile and Up to 20kg per person. We told the customs official how much we had and there was no problem. Hope I don't get your customs guy next time!

They get used to it. It's amazing what getting hungry will do. Canadian babies seem to have survived.

Can't you just sneak it in?...Have a word with the poster Former Lancastrian(?), I'm sure he could tell you a thing or two about smuggling a few kilos of white powder into Canada.

Re: Shipping baby formula to canada
I was planning on having some posted over, but wasn't sure if there would be charges to pay when it got here. It would be under 20kg.
We have tried various formulas here which have not agreed with our baby. He eats like a champ and has never refused any bottle but has been severely gassy which is sore for him.
We were home in uk at Christmas time and found a formula that has really worked. We now have a happy baby who doesn't need a constant supply of gripe water. Another plus is we can all get a solid 4 hours sleep at night.
Cost wise, formula is so expensive here anyway that to have some shipped over works out at almost the same price. That is to say, unless there will be duties to pay upon its arrival!
So..... Does anybody know if I would have to pay anything when it arrives?

It depends on the value; under $20 and there is nothing to pay, over $20 then you would pay duty and whatever taxes are applicable to the Province you live in.

Canadian babies aren't given foreign formula for x months then have it swapped for Canadian formula, so I'm not surprised they take it ok.

Have you tried Bio Gaia probiotic drops at all? Our little one was super gassy and windy all the time, and had a lot of trouble sleeping as a result - naps were only 20 mins max before gas pains woke her up again. Doc suggested probiotic drops and within three days of starting them the gas had subsided by about 80-90% and she was napping an hour or more at a time. They are quite expensive at about thirty bucks a bottle (20 in costco) but sooo worth it for the results. May be worth a try?

Interestingly there's a report in this morning's DM that there is a shortage of/black market for some baby formula in the UK. I know, if it's in the Daily Mail it must be a lie.

Stupid question but have you tried asking your pediatrician for a recommendation that would suit?
We struggled to find one that suited after stopping breastfeeding and finally got one that suited on their recommendation. Its a PC own brand one that we probably never would have tried otherwise. Walmart own brand comfort ones are supposed to be very good for gassy babies.
