Shipping advice needed
Hi everyone,
We cannot decide whether to use a part container for some stuff we are bringing over to VI or air freight it. We had a quote for £450 for 90kg via air freight, with us picking it up at victoria airport and clearing it thru customs and paying any fee there. We are not exactly sure what that entails but unsure if this would be most cost effective or using a container. We think with the stuff we are shipping it would fill half a container. We are so unsure as to bring the bare personel stuff or bring my partners tools and extra stuff. Any advice would be appreciated. |

Re: Shipping advice needed
Great, Thanks for that. That sounds reasonable. Did you pack it yourselves? That time scale was real fast. Im impressed.

Re: Shipping advice needed
yes we packed it ourselves, it was just personal items, photos, winter jackets and kids toys, will be there tommorrow and they phone before it arrives. It has flown with fedex.

Re: Shipping advice needed
90kg is not alot, if you think you could fill half a container that may work out very expensive sending it by air, it also depends on how quick you need your stuff, if you can wait then send by boat

Re: Shipping advice needed
Well we are trying to decide whether to just ship our personel stuff.. ie clothes, shoes, photos etc, and get rid of rest or go and keep stuff and ship it all, well what we have left after my son got his new house and emptied mine!!

Re: Shipping advice needed
Just looking at sharing a container tho does seem expensive. For a full container its around £4000, for half it seems from posts around £3000, surely its not worth that. Has anyone had half a container and if so what was the cost?

Re: Shipping advice needed
Hi Chris65,
Doree Bonner quoted us £942 (before marine insurance) for up to 150 cu ft of a shared container. We too are only taking (when we do move that is!) personal items such as clothing, kids toys, photographs, etc, biggest item to go is the OH's precious golf clubs. This includes packing, door to door delivery, going to Calgary, all customs paperwork and processing dealt with by Doree Bonner or their agents in Canada. |
