Shall I Do French?

Hi,
I'm just wondering if anyone has done a french course, just for a benefit to have in Canada. I'm playing with the idea to do a basic course in french before we arrive next year. It is not to get any more points for application, but for own benefit as i will be working in schools. Anyone taken up french in adult life and found it easy to pick up. Didn't really enjoy french at school, more spanish, but willing to give a go.

Hye,
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think you can learn French for free if you are a landed immigrant.

But learning French will take you another couple of months and would this benefit your chances on a job?

French is often required in governmental jobs and at schools.

Were are you planning to live in Canada?

My French was lousy too in the beginning, but I took a one years course last year and did pretty good. There were only adults there and we had a lot of fun. In September another course starts (one step higher) and I already sent in all the forms. We will go to Canade somewhere in 2005. By that time I will have built up a pretty good knowledge of the French language.

Good luck!

Basically, knowledge of French is a big asset if you intend to reside in Quebec or northern New Brunswick, but not really in the rest of the country generally.

Knowledge of French is also important for advancement in Canada's federal civil service, jobs that I don't think you would be eligible for anyway.
