Hi there

My husband has been working with Shadi to get a job in Canada, she has managed to find him a Job in Calgary but it is taking an awfully long time, does any one have any experiences with her? is she worth the money, which is a lot!!

I have no idea about the lady in question, but a search of the forum produces many threads in which she is referenced: http://britishexpats.com/forum/searc...earchid=561450 .

This one in particular might be worth reading: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...t=Shadi+Norman

'Caveat emptor' is a useful thing to bear in mind when dealing with immigration consultants.

Re: Shadi Norman

Check out the following wiki page which may help............

http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Employ...encies%27_Fees

Basically, it is illegal in a lot of provinces for a recruitment consultant or immigration consultant to charge a potential employee for helping to find a job (they are only legally allowed to charge the potential employer). From what is written in the Wiki, it appears that she should NOT be charging your husband for helping him to find work? And I hope you are not going to pay her for helping you to do the paperwork bearing in mind the potential employer will do the majority of it and the only bit you need to do is fill in a 2 page form!!

What does your husband do? That may help people tell you what likelihood there is of him easily finding work in Alberta.

If you do a search of the forum (top right of forum) then there's certainly lots of mention of her which may help.

Best of luck - and if you have any questions about it all then do check out the Wiki (top left of page) which is a brilliant section with loads of info in.

Oh, and welcome!! :)

To be honest, I think I worded it incorrectly, according to the paperwork, it states that she is actually helping us to gain access into Canada via work permit, the actual Job part is free, however I tend to think that you do not get something for nothing these days hence my first query with regards to my posting on this site. In short, Shadi is helping my husband to find a job and also get nominated through the pnp.

So sorry should think before I type!!

OK, I'm confused! (admittedly doesn't take much!!). So the paperwork says that the fee is only payable for the immigration part, not a job search? In which case she's above board - I suspect she's been quite clever about the paperwork not mentioning finding a job for a fee as she knows it's illegal.

BUT.....you say she's charging you a lot of money and I don't understand what for? What exactly is she charging you for - helping to fill out the application form for the TWP (which as I said earlier, is a 2 page form!)??. She can't help him 'get nominated through the pnp' as the employer has to do that, so can you clarify exactly what she's charging you for?

Hi there

From what I understand of the paper work, Shadi is helping us with provincial Nominee paperwork, and applying for work visa, the job side of it is free, and it will cost us $5000.00 dollars, do you know if this is the going rate?

I know I sound a wee bit dim but this is all new to me, and if there is a way my husband can accept the job without haveing to pay someone for something that we could easily do our selves then your knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there

could I ask, what was the feedback from your friends? how long did it take? as I am starting to panic as her calls are getting less and less and she does not respond to emails as much either?

You don't sound 'a wee bit dim' at all - just somebody lost in the fog of immigration which is understandable!! Do have a very good look at the wiki (top left of page) which will answer all of your questions and more. It will tell you all about getting a TWP and PNP (or alternatively applying for PR once in Canada working on a TWP as it is fasttracked and usually through within 6-8 months or so). Make yourself a cuppa (or perhaps a long cold drink on a day like today!) and sit down and be prepared to read for hours.

This article would be a good place to start - http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Quick_...an_Immigration

And this one may help too - http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Immigr...ultants-Canada

Personally, I think $5000 is an awful lot of money to be paying somebody for something that you could easily do yourself but obviously it's up to you. Perhaps once you've read the Wiki and understood a bit more about what exactly is involved then it will help you make an informed decision.

I think that immigration consultants do have their place and certainly, for people with complicated circumstances, they are a godsend. But not sure that in this instance I would pay that much money for the service. Remember your potential employer and you will have to do the majority of the legwork anyway i.e. gathering evidence, documents, etc, so just ask yourself exactly what she will do for that money?

Grab that drink and read that Wiki! Then do post back if you have any further questions. Best of luck. :)

After you've read the Wiki articles on Immigration, as christmasoompa suggested, and the one called Quick Job Hunting Instructions-Canada, as I would suggest, you might like to read the ones about taxes in Canada.

Re: Shadi Norman

Hi Glenn

Thank you for responding, could I ask how long did it take for you to get over to Canada?

I ask this because, Shadi has secured us a job in Calgary, therefore, we have taken out a lease for 6 months on a house in England in the hope that we will be moving around christmas (preferably after, want to spend last xmas in England), but she is not responding to emails or calls to answer any queries that we may have.

I am getting nervous because I felt that in the begining she would contact and talk about what she was doing and answer any queries etc, now we know that we have a job, I want to ask when will they require my husband to start? has she started the ball rolling with regards to PNP? or is she going to get us over on a TWP? We need to sort out our house, etc, but until we know what time limit we have to work against we are in the dark? Can you help by telling me what your experience was?

Many thanks

Jackie
