Settling in

Hey there peeps

How did everyone who has made the (big) move found the process of settling into a new country and making freinds. My better halfs biggest fear is moving away and beign lonley.

Everyone has their own story to tell... Depends on so so much ...... Our story would put you off (maybe) others will tell you how perfectly wonderful it was.

You have no choice but to make your own choices

Good Luck

Hello B1G Phil,

My wife when through the same thing, as she comes from a big family and had lots of friends back in the UK.

When we landed here, I got my wife to search for any local womans groups online that met up regualary in the local area. She found some and attended a couple of meetings, and they were not the right thing for her.

3rd time lucky though, she joined a group of women with similar interests and they have events every week with even guest speakers on women's topics, etc.

This has lead to meeting more friends, not just for my wife but for me as well.
We have such a social network now, even more so that in the UK, we volunteer with a local childrens organization, volunteer at womans events and have made more friends that ever before!

Just be prepared to give yourself time, as it took us several months before we made some true friends here.

I think you really have to make the effort (not saying that your wife would not though), as I know that if someone is naturally shy, this can be be a difficult hurdle to cross.

I know that some people might not agree with this post, and that is their right, but these are just my experiences to date, we would not change this for the world!

Thanks

Jaffa

I find it easier to start a casual conversation with Canadians than Limeys. Just be prepared to have a chat with strangers.
