Sent a letter from the UK to Canada and...

Re: Sent a letter from the UK to Canada and...
I'm afraid I don't really see the complaint here. Canada Post is shit and it's always* been shit (presumably Royal Mail will now progress toward being shit). Some countries have reasonable postal services, the UK and the US among them, some don't, Canada and Nigeria among them. Why send anything by post in or into a country where you know the postal service is unreliable? If it matters, why not use email or a telephone or Fedex? If you do choose to send a letter 500 miles up the Limpopo, why fuss about it not arriving?
*I only know for a fact that it's been shit since 1981, it may have been wonderful prior to that.

I just wish somebody would write to me, I don't care how long it takes to get here

Don't think anyone at Canada Post knows that anywhere outside Charlottetown even exists on PEI....
Been here 5 years and am still trying to pleasantly educate my UK friends and family about the need to send mail at least 2 weeks in advance to avoid the inevitable disappointment on birthdays and Xmas etc. Doesn't seem to have sunk in yet, they still send stuff perhaps a week before and expect it to make it. It can take 5 days to get just from Charlottetown to the North Shore 30 km away.....
I'm used to it but my daughter is still upset when her birthday is apparently 'forgotten' by most of her family.
Just one of the realities of immigrant life I suppose

Re: Sent a letter from the UK to Canada and...
I find that cards from Vancouver to the UK or vice-versa usually take 4-5 working days, sent regular air mail.
Canada Post in my experience seem to be much worse domestically. Last summer I ordered some tickets online which arrived 3 months later, 2 months after the actual play! They were only travelling 8 blocks (saves me right for not picking them up in person I guess). The box office confirmed the date they were mailed to me (which they were postmarked with when I did eventually get them) and had to reissue the tickets...I went and got them in person
I came across another CP screw up today at work. A package was sent via Canada Post courier, signature required, from our office in downtown Vancouver last Friday afternoon, en route to Creston. When we tracked it today we saw that by Tuesday it was in Williams Lake (!) and it stated 'Canada Post error - re-routed - probable delay in delivery'. By this morning it had made it to Cranbrook...

Does anyone else get deliveries at 10.00 pm?
Okay, it was probably a one-off just before xmas but after 5.00 pm happens every few weeks. It's not someone passing on wrongly delivered mail, I've seen the mail person.
