Sending Personal Effects
Good Afternoon,
Apologies if this question has been answered already, but I cannot find a definitive answer.
My partner is a Canadian citizen, I'm a UK citizen. We have decided I'm going to move and apply inland for spousal sponsorship.
My question is, can I send my personal effects to Canada now, so they're there for when I arrive on my tourist visa (return ticket already booked) or should I send them addressed to my partner? But with that instance, do I mark the box contents as 'gifts'?
Also do I need to write a list of items to follow even though we haven't submitted the inland application yet?
I'm very confused about it all as nothing is stated when getting shipping quotes
TIA
Susie

These are your personal belongings but on arrival you would be treated as a visitor so CBSA would be wondering why a visitor needs to send their personal effects? This would be an indication that you dont intend to leave Canada in some eyes as you are only a visitor.
Dependent on how many boxes etc you could have problems especially if you send them before arriving.
I would personally suggest you send them after being approved for sponsorship but thats my opinion. You will decide in the end.

Thank you so much for your quick reply. Yes, I think you're right, I'll arrange for family to send them on for me once settled.
