Selling household items
Hi everyone,
How did you sell your furniture before you left?
We have quite a few large items to go but I have been told on the grapevine that people dont really buy second hand anymore.
Any ideas?
Tina

Re: Selling household items
All our white goods went easily on Ebay and we were quite surprised that we got good money for them. As with the large items, it was more of a giveaway for a small donation. Its a bit sickening but it had to be done. Don't know if you have a large sainsburys/asda but most of our large items went on the notice board there and sold. We also advertised on the website of our local paper. Again that generated a lot of interest.

Hi
I'm not attached to any of them I just think no one is gonna want them lol.
I might give them away with the house

Re: Selling household items
Other items went to family members and we did a good few car boot sales too...still can't believe what people will buy at those things. They were good fun though and raised a bit of money on stuff we might otherwise have dumped.

We donated our stuff back to the British heart foundation where we bought them the year before. When we moved within the UK a lot of our furniture was a bit old and needed replaced and found that was the better option

Re: Selling household items
We sold what we could, gave some away to family and friends, donated what they would take to the DeBRA charity and took the rest for recycling/duming at the council site

Re: Selling household items
1st time over sold everything or gave it away
When I returned to the UK and when I moved back to Canada I kind'a worked out it was cheaper to ship than replace (if its good stuff)

Re: Selling household items
For selling, tried Gumtree? If they have in your area. Worked quite well with furniture for us.

Re: Selling household items
We sold most of the large stuff with the house (white goods, bed, sofa, wardrobes). Other stuff, we offered on Freecycle, sold on Ebay, took to the charity shop.
If you put it on Ebay, advertise as local collection and emphasise the fact that you won't ship it anywhere! We advertised stuff on the local Gumtree and Friday ads pages too.

Re: Selling household items
A few car boot sales to sell the smaller stuff, even the car went at the boot sale!! made a list of other stuff and e-mailed all our friends who knew we were moving. Its surprising what people will buy.Sold stuff to people who bought the house, charity loads of stuff, its a great time for a life laundry and all that crap which you have stored away for years no longer clutters up the attic!!
If it fits in the container take it, money is haemorraged when you first arrive on everything.BUT for us it was worth it!!
