Self-directed QROPS RRSPs
Hi. I moved to Canada several years ago and am (finally) considering moving UK pension schemes (both occupational and personal, if possible) to Canada. Ideally to a normal RRSP. I like to manage my own financial affairs, so self-directed is good. Currently use RBC Direct Investing for other investment matters. I have perused various forums and the HMRC QROPS list (though I'm not sure if this is complete).
Question ... does anyone have positive or negative views on providers of self-directed RRSP accounts that are QROPS eligible? In particular whether RBC Direct Investing or BMO InvestorLine offer QROPS eligible RRSP accounts? I understand that Scotia iTrade have such an account but I have not very familiar with Scotia. Question ... I understand that current HMRC QROPS regulations restrict various RRSP actions for 10 years from date of transfer. I have no intention of somehow withdrawing capital in next 10 years but do regulations impact transfer of RRSP ... i.e. does this mean that I cannot move the RRSP from one financial provider to another financial provider for 10 years (irrespective if I find their service to be poor)? Thanks, Corky |
