Second time lucky in Canada Heads UP
 

Moved to Ontario from UK in 2002 on WP with the intention of becoming PR unfortunately things beyond my control meant a return to UK in 2003. In 2006 returned to Canada this time the lovely province of Alberta on WP/PNP sponsored by an esteemed Calgary based electrical contractor. Now in the process of applying for PR from with-in Canada with the provincial nominee certificate attached to our application. In order to get to this point you need to jump through an awful lot of hoops, both emotional & resettlement. You also need to impress you're employer in an unfamiliar setting and possibly pass a licensing examination. Here in Canada there are a lot of people who can help you for a modest fee fair enough if you don't want to do the leg work or need that bit of expert help, avoid those who charge excessively to get you interviews or assist you with that resume. Companies here are experiencing a massive shortage of workers from CEO to Fast Food helpers and all those between check out the CIC web site if your a skilled trade or professional, try a direct approach remember theres a 7 hour time difference. We know how hard it is to get sorted when you are in a skilled trade.
Our options at the moment is ontario and alberta.

Alberta is coming out better as it is alot easier to get work, than in ontario
Hubby is an industrial electrician, he has been checked out with the ministry of training in ontario and has received a temp 3mth licence from them.

He missed the score with a couple of points, which is frustrating, but considering he sat the test with no canadian training etc the asser was really impressed with him.
Looks like more searching for us

Hi Gill, we assume that you are talking about the red seal (IP) exam, In Alberta if Your Husband secures a job offer with a an Alberta approved employer you will also be eligible to apply for PNP once the red seal exam has been taken and passed within 6mths. Your Husband has two attempts to pass the downside is it costs $450 to process your credentials, work history etc Due to the critical skill shortage the province is looking to take direct action and are awaiting the go ahead to run a pilot scheme, that if you have your city and guilds or NVQ in a recognised skill trade you will be able to apply for PNP direct thus therefore enabling you to choose your approved employer within that trade and position. So basically if this does go ahead you will be able to apply from the UK.

Hope this helps, if its any consellation the majority of UK electricians fail 1st attempt, and we understand that a high proportion of Canadians also fail 1st attempt. Have you looked at trade secrets and exam bank websites? Not 100% sure but in Alberta an industrial and construction electrician write the same exam which I believe may not be the case in Ontario. Therefore you get added versitallity in Alberta.

Yup, that's correct, all the info can be obtained on www.tradesecrets.gov.ab.ca - I work there (relatively new (since January) and still in lots and LOTS of training but can help out if I can);)
