scottish couple with work queries

Hello all

Currently doing some groundwork
Can anyone tell me how easy or difficult it would be to find work for an electrician and a prison officer
Thanks in advance

If (and this is a big IF) they accept your qualifications as being equivalent to whatever "red seal" apprenticeship level it is then you shouldn't have any issues getting the same rate as anybody else. If they don't accept your qualifications (and I don't know the answer) then I reckon in the boom towns you'll still get work but they will likely pay you at a discount (don't know how much of a discount).

Prison officer no idea.

Ok thanks for the quick reply
I know I'd have to apply for a province and basically do another practical theory test but its something im happy to do. Also have compex certificate for working in explosive atmospheres
Hoping to get into the oil and gas if possible

Long shot but if you like, you could PM me with your email address and I'll give you mine back and once you get your PR and you're here on the ground I know a guy who hires electricians. No guarantees of anything mind you but I can definitely ask.

My opinion (for what that's worth) is that there's plenty of trades work here in Calgary. As far as I know all of Alberta and a whole lot of Saskatchewan is the same. Don't know about Ontario because it's been more than a decade since I was there and I can't speak to the rest of the country.

An electrician will find work easily, a prison officer would likely have a much tougher time of it as I am sure there will be citizenship requirements, etc. Also, you must keep in mind that prisons here are very different from prisons in Britain with ours being more American style (probably not the best description, but the best that I could come up with as I am in a hurry to head out to lunch).

Hi Tony welcome fellow Scot you will find a job no problem (barring all the usual red tape with permits/immigration etc) my hubby currently working in Oil fields, making great money, just a shame he isn't 20 years younger (well both of us) as he would be minted like some of the young guys who have no commitments, if you are happy to go out west to the oil fields you will never be out of work. Feel free to drop me a pm anytime
