Schools - maple ridge
We are hoping to land next summer. (I'm a family physician). We've decided on BC. The most likely locations looking at jobs for me would be maple ridge or Okanagan or vancouver Island.
We have been leaning towards lower mainland as there would be more opportunities for my husband to find work. He's currently a self employed personal trainer. In another thread I read that there are schooling issues in maple ridge. We will have a daughter starting 10th grade and one starting 1st grade so will need a high school and an elementary school. Any thoughts. Thanks |
Re: Schools - maple ridge
The school issue in Maple Ridge is that they aren't currently building new schools in E and NE Maple Ridge (ie Albion and Silver Valley) because the schools in West Maple Ridge are well under capacity and because of that, the Government will not fund capital expenditure on new schools.
The schools close to E and NE Maple Ridge are oversubscribed, so new residents of those areas are finding that their children have to travel to the opposite end of Maple Ridge to go to school. I presume this is covered by school buses (no idea as my kids are past that age), but still probably makes for a long school day. I understand that the Government have finally conceded that this isn't practical and are now funding new schools, but I'm not sure where these will be. I had heard that an Elementary School was going to be built near Maple Ridge Park and a high school in Albion, but I could be imagining that... |
