Schools - Fraser Institute Report

I didn't much mind if the children went to "prestigious" universities, my hope was that they would finish high school without getting pregnant and without picking up any of the more obviously dangerous addictions.

One's objective is not to scale that ladder but to see one's children do so; penniless immigrant to resident of Tower Hamlets in one generation!

I do have a child who ended up at UBC, she's the only one still in Canada. I was disappointed at her choice of course but understood her reasons for choosing UBC (she lived in Alaska at the time and wanted to be near enough to go there occasionally and she needed a low cost and/or high scholarship dollar school. UBC was financially the best option).

I have a girl and I hope she doesn't get pregnant during HS either.

Tower Hamlets is a very big borough and has always been a magnet for immigrants (especially now) as well as having a handful of well-to-do areas (more recently). It sounds slightly incongruous to my ear when TH is referenced as a "sought after area" as most in London would not think of it that way. Unless you're being ironic, I'm sure there is a better descriptor to convey her success. In any case, it does sound as though all the Toronto schooling aggro has paid off.

Due to the ageing population here on the Island children are being phased out entirely, so the Fraser Institute will, thankfully, become redundant!

While there are still crypto-socialist provincial governments in power wasting taxes and stifling initiative and innovation I wouldn't count on it.

There are still LOADS of other things crypto-socialist provincial governments can waste their money on here - just older things!

To be honest not sure - it's just a bit of a standing joke that you come to the Island to die. It's such a beautiful place, with no real discernable indistry, the only people who can afford to live here are a lucky few with proper jobs and the rich, infirm, retirees (or so it is said).

That sounds so graphic. Much prefer something like Gods waiting room or live out their sunset years.
Isn't Victoria more affordable than Vancouver for property? Ok, much less jobs, but I would have thought it's attractive for some priced-out young Vancouver families who mostly want the sea and climate?
