School year age?

Hi

Hubby is currently applying for work in Alberta and may have an interview arranged. We have 3 girls the aged 12, 8 and 5. The 12 year old and 8 year old were both born in December and the 5 year old is in May. Would they stay in the same school years they are in now or does it work differently in Alberta?

Many Thanks :)

http://www.education.alberta.ca/pare...udents/vi.aspx for basics - where in Alberta are you hoping to move to? Each District School Board have different requirements.

There's also lots of info in the wiki: http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Category:Education-Canada

:)

School age years run from March to March... in the UK it is Sept to Sept...i have 3 kids my oldest went from being the youngest in his year in the UK to in the middle here and my other two went from being in the middle to being the oldest in the year.

Where I am it's 1st January, hence my son, born 5th January, is the eldest in the class, as he was in his previous school.

Believe it's calendar year here in Ontario too.

1st March is the cut off date, in Calgary at least. Those older would stay in the same numbered grade as year in England. Those younger would go back.

The "older" group would eventually finish school in G12 in Calgary ie one year earlier than if they had stayed in England.

Not a jot AC, but I do think it's interesting to see how it is not a hard and fast rule, but varies from Province to Province and perhaps even within Provinces?

It doesn't have to. The forum has a search function and someone looking for this information might be picking another province.
