school
We are moving to Toronto in July and will be put in temp accomodation for 2 months by employer until we find our own place, this is where our problem starts.
As we do not know exactly where we will be living we cannot contact schools prior to moving, all the schools will be closed for summer, how easy is it to get children started in school when the new term starts? i gather she would be going into grade 1, she is 6 and is in p1 here in Scotland, would that be right? thanks for any help. |
Re: school
I know here in Alberta, the staff are in school at least a week before the new school years starts in September. HTH.

Re: school
Your welcome. It may be worth searching for the Toronto public school board and just emailing/calling a few schools to get some info. I found the ones in Red Deer really helpful.

Toronto school
You can do all the above. We did, and we are in the East Toronto area::::BUT
When we got here it seems it was a waste of time, the school we though Matt was going to, and had conversed with via phone and email from the UK. was too far from where we eventually settled. So we ended up at a school just walking distance away. If you know your exact location where you will be living, you may get the right school. It is just a case of walking into the nearby school prior to them opening up for the next term and they will check you in. Bring you vaccination papers and any pre-school info so they can decide where to place the child, class ect. |

Re: school
FYI-Almost all administrative staff, and similar bureaucratic types, will be out until 1st week of August (admin hols are typically 1st week in July to third week in July); They'll be back at their cube doing the things that they do by then. Contact the area school or school board for direction.
The teachers piss off as of June 28th - never to be seen until August 26-27th, usually red, raw and with DTs. |
Re: school
thanks all, really useful.

Re: school
In Windsor Ontario the schools open for admin two weeks before the start of the school year, for new registrations etc. As for what year your daughter will go into, my children will go into the year before the one they are in now.
As Canadian Schools start their education at 6 not 5 as in the UK, you would need to ask that question when you register, or contact some schools around where you think you may be living. Schools do have catchment areas and your child will have to go to whatever school is in your catchment area unless you opt for private education Hope this helps. Stef
