ROLF Issue (Urgent)

Dear Expert,

I had filed my application for permanent residence in Canada. Now I have reached the final stage after the successful completion of my interview, medicals, etc. I have now received a letter from the Canadian Consulate in Detroit, USA (this is where my file is) asking me to submit the passport for attaching the visa sticker, along with 4 photographs (they have given the photo specifications also) and remit the Right Of Landing Fee. The big issue that puzzles me is that I had already sent my ROLF (975.00 Canadian Dollars) in April. Now, in the letter that I received yesterday, Iam asked to remit my ROLF also. What might have happened to the ROLF that I had already remitted several months ago? Will it have been lost in transit or got misplaced somewhere within the Consulate or elsewhere? Is it that I have to pay another ROLF in order to get the visa now? How can this be clarified? I tried to contact Detroit office through telephone, but they said it is not possible to communicate such matters through telephone. However, the person who talked to me said that the letter I received is a generic one and is a standard format sent for all applicants, and that, if I had already paid the ROLF, just ignore it and send the rest of the documents asked in the letter. But how can I be sure that the ROLF need not be paid again? Since I have already sent the bank draft for my ROLF in April, won’t it be duplication if I remit ROLF once again? The Consulate has not sent me any receipt or acknowledgement for my ROLF paid earlier. Could you please advise what to do? Eagerly waiting for your expert comments and advice.

Thanks and Regards,
Jim Samuel.

ask your bank if the rolf draft has been cashed.. if it has, then you are in the clear... get a certified copy of the cancelled draft (when a draft is cashed in, the bank retains an image, or in some cases an original, of the instrument; get a copy of it and have an officer at the bank certify it, they will do it for free) send the passport and attach a letter explaining that you have already paid the rolf, and include the copy of the cancelled draft...

If you had already paid the landing fee, send them your passports and
enclose a copy of the draft you sent to them originally, if you have
it, and/or also enclose a letter stating that you had already paid the
ROLF.

Are you sure you sent the fee to the right address, did'nt you send it
registered.

Good luck.

You should check if the certified cheque or money order that you
provided to the visa office had been cashed. If it has, then it is fair
to assume that the ROLF has been received and that the letter is
mistaken. You may also wish to send them confirmation of this.
