Based on my daughter's comments and her instagram feed, the better UK comparison for Vancouver might be Hampstead. There's green in both, Stanley Park and the Heath. Both are very expensive to live in, both have a champagne socialist, yummy mummy, vibe. Both offer easy access to mountains and winter sports, for a weekend; in Vancouver by summoning a ride share Pious and in Hampstead by EasyJet. Hampstead, of course, is near to places and things.

Unless you are living on the outskirts with a car, most city people can't be bothered and probably just go to a local park. After all they are city people

The price you pay to live in a city like Vancouver, Dublin etc. also wouldn't be worth it for me personally. First of all housing would be so expensive that I couldn't really enjoy the benefits of the city (shopping, restaurants) and if I want scenery I'm surely better off in the actual countryside.
Well Dublin does offer more than London and NYC in terms of mountains and nature nearby but I don't think it is on the same scale as what Vancouver offers e.g. there is definitely no skiing! But like I said, I do prefer it as a city to Van.

30 minutes from my apartment I have hikes that'll take me 8 hours and take me to places that I could get into serious trouble if I'm not prepared. 45 minutes and I can be on my snowboard.

Yes, but can you get a good pint of Guinness?

Haha, I don't really drink and I don't like beer I'm the first to admit that if you want culture, Vancouver is miles behind Europe, but if, like me, you live for the outdoors, you'd be hard-pressed to beat Vancouver. It all depends on your priorities.

You can. Vancouver has strong links to the Guinness family too. They had to Lions Gate bridge built and developed a lot of the North Shore, the 'British Properties'.

When we first moved there it reminded me most of the demographic of Brighton, but with a population size of Manchester. Guess you could be in the Alps within a few hours of Brighton too. More of a hassle than hopping in a Prius though.

Hampstead has a significant population of very rich, non-English speaking people, I don't know if that's also true of Brighton.

Vancouver and Portland are similiar sized city's and metro areas. Both city's also happen to be in fairly nice natural scenic areas.

Portland though at least for me is what Vancouver could be, it's fun, hip and plenty of things to do, and a decent nightlife I hear.

2 bucket lists found online, I personally find the Portland one more interesting overall.

Have lived in both, and would tend to agree.

I used to live in Greystones, oh how i miss Wicklow. Beautiful place. And I lived in NW Mayo, which is very wild.

(My mum and dad are inner city Dubs)

My brother lives in Greystones and has since about 2010. Technically his address is in Knockroe, Delgany which is on the south side of Greystones I think. It is very nice there close to the coast, close to the Wicklow Hills.

I love that part too and we sometimes drive down for a day trip. My favourite part is a bit further up here. Obviously a pricey place to live but for a stroll very nice:-)
Check out this travel post. Especially on a day like that amazing
