We have covered bridges 
and a few across rivers and, of course, the Confederation bridge. I'm not aware of any scary touristy bridge walks.
Some zipline places.

Not sure anyone earning the median or average income in Vancouver can afford to buy these days, at least a house, maybe a condo but even condos are a bit pricey, we are in East Van and in somewhat sketchy area and units in this building are selling for close to 600,000 now.

What is good for one maybe bad for another. My first house, mortgage rates were 18%, was not great for us. I would be thrilled to bits with that rate now.

Extortionate house price increases are good for: 1) people downsizing or 2) about to kick the bucket an need the money for care. For everyone else, it's bullshit.

No one seems bothered by the rain? At least the summers are usually sunny. I agree that Vancouver is an unremarkable city - but in a stunning natural setting. I also agree that salaries are low compared to other cities (at least in IT where I work). I moved there a long time ago but had seen enough to know it wasn't for me after only a month or so.

I would be surprised if you cant find anyone. I work in consultancy and mostly mining so I don't come across seismic engineers involved with retrofitting. The CoV does now require, as a condition of a building permit for renovations, that you spend a certain percentage on seismic upgrades. Someone must be doing the work. I imagine most people deal with the contractor who in turn works on your behalf with the engineer and architect.

My wife's mother bought a home in Squamish in 1984, she worked at Sears as a sales person.
Certainly can't do that today working a non-management retail job. Only the wealthy and highest of income earners can own in Vancouver.
My parents also didn't have to work 90 hours just to pay rent either. They only worked 40 hours per week, and paid rent, owned 2 cars, took vacations, had 2 kids etc and a good quality of life, and ability to save and have retirement.
