returned product tax

Hey guys, I recently bought something from Sears and had to return it. They refunded the cost of the item, but not the tax that was paid on it. I only noticed because the difference between the 2 entries in my credit card statement is nearly $40. Is that normal, is there another way to claim tax back? I keep getting confused with the way tax isn't included in the quoted price of things here!

Thanks in advance,

Ian.

Did you buy it from Sears Canada? If so, they should have refunded the tax you paid.

The sales tax should have been refunded.

Are you sure it wasn't a restocking fee?

Cool, good to hear that's not the way things work here. :)

It shouldn't have been a restocking fee since the product was faulty. I though those restocking fees would only apply to non-faulty returns.

I'll contact sears and ask them what has happened.

Thanks guys.
