Default Return ticket back from Canada - Please Help

We have finally been granted two year permits - one for a student and one for an open work permit. However, we're having problems booking an open return ticket, becuase the airlines don't do these types of tickets anymore.
Is it imperative that when we land in Canada, we need to show border control a return ticket?
If we don't have one, will they turn us away?

I'm not sure you could have got a ticket for a return date two years in advance anyway - one year always seemed to be the max.

Don't worry about it - two years is a long time. Enjoy!

You don't need a return ticket if you have a two year visa

I thought it was a must requirement to show at the boarder that you have the intention to return home?

Thanks

I'm not sure Bob. But you can extend your stay or your ticket so why not get a return ticket for 12 months with the flexibility to change it? The Immigrations people were great with me, just explain about the airlines when you get here!

Take the advice! You don't need a return ticket at this stage.

However, you will no doubt find that it is MUCH cheaper to buy a return ticket instead of a one way ticket!

The trouble is though - if there is no such ticket available, how can they buy one?

You don't need a return ticket as you have student and work visas. You're not going as a visitor/tourist so they won't expect you to have a return ticket. However, if a return ticket works out cheaper than a one-way, buy one for any return date and then just don't use the return portion.

I know I'm repeating what others have said - but believe them because they are correct.

Buy a return ticket - you can always change the return date for a cost of a couple of hundred dollars at a later date. Still cheaper than buying a one way ticket.

A return is cheaper than two singles, but if you aren't going to use one half of the return ticket each time (there and back), doesn't it become more expensive. Our one-way tickets to Vancouver were cheaper than a return.
