Incidentally, I have never been asked in London, but ALWAYS in Manchester.

With Air Canada you should not have a problem - it's clear to them that passport alone is ok, provided you don't need a visa. Look at their website and print off relevant section.

With charter airlines, you probably need a return ticket at a minimum. You do't have to tell them you are PR and they don't need to know.

With another airline, check in advance, in writing.
