Renewing UK Passport
I am about to send off my passport for renewal.
Last year the fee was $200.00 then in winter I checked again and it was $210 and I decided to check again now and since April 1st it has gone up again to $286.00 - Plus $15,00 courier fee because they only use that, except I live 3 hours from Ottawa and they always send it in the mail. I am disgusted at these continual fee hikes and the courier fee is a rip off. Good thing it's only every 10 years. |
Re: Renewing UK Passport
Back when I was a stateless person, I would have thought I'd died and arrived in heaven if someone had told me I could have a passport.

Hopefully we will be 'home', before our Passports expire, but just in case could you provide the link for U.K. Passport renewals whilst in Canada. The U.K. home page reads a fee of 66 pounds, for a 10 year passport. That's the fee applicable for a (U.K. home resident) as opposed to $92 for a 5 year Canadian passport (Canadian home resident). The administration fees also appear higher in Canada as well. Personally we are very happy to pay whatever it costs to keep our British Passport. We will also apply for a Canadian Passport prior to our departure, which we will similarly renew, and be happy to do so, irrelevant of the cost. Our British Passport however to 'us' is priceless. Regards. |

Sunshine Girl - I don't remember the website but go to Yahoo Canada and put in British High Commission Ottawa. When the page comes up click on passports.
We would never give up our British passport ever, so just have to pay it. By the next time 10 years down the road if we are in UK we could do it there but cost will have increased again and again by then! |

You can visit the UK on a Canadian passport provided you don't mind the queue in the non-EEA/Swiss channel. Many dual British/Canadian citizens (resident in Canada) just use Canadian passports without a problem. That said, many other dual citizens always keep both passports valid just in case they are needed in a hurry. For example, as far as I know if you have a British passport you can visit Brazil without a visa. You can't do that with a Canadian passport. |
Re: Renewing UK Passport
How do most people with a UK and a Canadian passport handle a trip from say Canada to the UK for a visit and back? Do you carry both and enter the UK on a UK passport then enter Canada on a Canadian passport or do you just use a Canadian one. My understanding is that travelling with multiple passports is considered a bad thing by immigration people and especially in these times of tracking all things passenger data related it might throw up red flags to see the same passenger with two different passport numbers on the same trip.
Currently I just have a UK passport and my Canadian Citizenship card which is good enough but I plan to get a Canadian passport once I can find a guarantour or pay the fees to have a notary do the declaration thing. Drew |

You can present two passports to airline staff but when dealing with immigration officials: - only present one passport initially - only show them the second passport if asked - if the country has exit immigration controls, leave on the same passport you entered with |

- Australian passport at check-in in the UK Then, in the other direction:- UK passport at security (if asked, although it probably wouldn't matter which) - UK passport at UK exit control (when there is one) - Australian passport at the plane door - Australian passport to enter Australia - UK passport at check-in in Australia There are millions of people who legitimately carry two passports, so it shouldn't come as too much of surprise to people working at airports. But for simplicity's sake I only ever show one at a time; I would of course produce the other one if asked for it, but I have never been asked for it.- Australian passport at Australian exit control - UK passport at plane door - UK passport to enter the UK |
